The Butler Camp Staff is one of the chief reasons for our success and excellent reputation in the community.  The Camp Counselors are energetic, attentive, fun people who are well-loved by the campers and parents.  Every staff member is personally interviewed by the Camp Director, provides references, and is required to be fingerprinted for background checks with the State of Maryland and the FBI.  They also are given “Exit Interviews” at the end of every summer to discuss their job performances, interests, and offer helpful feedback to the Camp Director on their experience at camp.

The majority of our staff are between the ages of 18 and 24 years old, interspersed with more mature staff, as well as  a handful of high school students  who are between the ages of 16 & 17 years old.   Most of staff  return each summer until it is time to start their working careers after college graduation.

Each year the staff participates in several training sessions to prepare them for their important job of working with children, as well as maintaining a safe environment for the campers.  All Directors, Head Counselors, and Instructors are CPR/First Aid certified.  Instructors are also certified through specific training courses in their area of interest or specialty (Archery, Canoeing, Caving, Equestrian, Life Guarding, Mountain Biking, Ropes Course, Rock Climbing, Soccer and Survival Skills).  Many of our staff are teachers or education majors in college.  Our goal is to give each child the fun and caring support needed to have a wonderful, memorable experience at Butler Camp.
