Butler School

Butler School is a Montessori school which embodies the educational principles established by Dr. Maria Montessori through her scientific observation of how children develop and learn. The Montessori approach offers education as an “aid to life,” assisting children in constructing themselves as they develop from three year-olds to mature adolescents through a series of developmental stages. The Montessori classroom and curriculum are designed to meet the specific needs of each developmental stage. Organized in mixed age groupings, students are provided the opportunity to engage in purposeful and meaningful activities under the direction of an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) trained adult.

All children have an inherent love of learning and joy in discovery. These innate tendencies are given direction by the hands-on materials and the teacher so that children develop knowledge, concentration, motivation, persistence and discipline. All work is done at the pace of the individual child.

Respect is the basis for all behavior in a Montessori classroom. Respect for the child, the adult, one’s self, and the physical environment permeate all that is important in formal and informal lessons and interactions. The mixed age groupings of each classroom allow for both individual and social development. The community of the classroom provides a safe and secure place for children to develop self-esteem and confidence, while they learn to be responsible and caring members of a society. The Montessori curriculum ties separate disciplines together into studies of the physical universe, the world of nature and the human experience. Literature, the arts, history, social issues, mathematics and science are all components of the Montessori curriculum. The curriculum is entirely open-ended, with limitless possibilities of study.

Butler Camp

At Butler Camp, we take pride in providing a great outdoor program while giving individual attention to our campers. The popularity of our camp can be attributed to the particular care given to each child by our experienced staff, and to a well-planned schedule of varied fun activities and fun adventures.

Horseback riding, swimming, soccer, hiking trails, a ropes course, an archery range, and arts and crafts are all part of the fun on our campus. Some of our older campers travel off campus for canoeing, rock climbing, fishing, whitewater rafting, tubing and mountain biking.

Soccer, swimming, art and games are all part of the Backyard Explorers, Young Adventures, Outdoor Adventures, Vaulting on Horseback and Equestrian programs. The soccer coach will instruct campers in sessions that mix fun and skills. Our campers love to spend time with the Art Director, who will teach a variety of “arts” (art, craft projects, story-telling, and drama) during their daily sessions under the shady trees of the “Art Area”. These camp groups will also join the Activity Director for fun, challenges and games. Each day these campers will spend time at our campus pool for light instruction and to cool off. Each session the Outdoor Adventures, Vaulters and Equestrian campers will have an evening cookout.

Extreme Adventures is geared for older campers who are ready for new adventure activities and an overnight each session. Young Olympians is designed for experienced riders, ages 10-16, especially those equestrians who ride year round.

Butler Equestrian Program

Butler School Equestrian Program is open to the public.  We have miles of trails, a large indoor riding ring and multiple outdoor riding rings. No Horse…….No Problem!!! Our riders train on our quality horses assigned according to the rider’s level.  Moving Up? No Problem! Our horses range from genuine school masters to national level competition horses.  Want your own Horse? No Problem!!! Our riders are designated one particular horse to train on and love!!
