This fund is in memory of Diane, a beloved member of the Butler Montessori community. As with many that have served our mission, Diane came to Butler Montessori as a parent first. Diane’s aunt was one of the first graduates of Washington Montessori Institute along with our founder, Rilla Spellman. This family connection gave her a strong belief in a Montessori education for her four sons.
Diane completed her own AMI training while serving as a Primary Assistant at Butler Montessori. She became a Primary Guide in 1992, and in 2000 became the Camp Director. Always dedicated to the education of children and the Montessori philosophy, she understood the importance of nature and the outside classroom as an integral part of the prepared environment.
To honor her memory and dedication to the Montessori philosophy, Diane’s family established this fund to support the continued training of Montessori educators.
