Step 1: Learn About Butler Montessori

Lower School (Infant–Grade 6)
Families begin by attending a required virtual information session led by an AMI-trained Montessori Guide. These sessions introduce our Montessori philosophy, programs, daily life at Butler, and what families can expect from our community.

Upper School (Grades 7–12)
Families begin with an in-person campus tour.

Step 2: Apply

Following the virtual information session or campus tour, families receive access to the online application through our admissions portal.

Application requirements vary by age and grade level and may include educational records, teacher recommendations, samples of student work, and other information.

Application Fee: A $100 application fee is due when the application is submitted. The fee is refundable if the application is withdrawn before the admission interview. Once the admission interview has taken place, the application fee becomes non-refundable.

Step 3: Application Review and Wait Pool

Lower School (Infant–Grade 6)

Once an application is complete, it enters our admissions process. Applications are reviewed with consideration for the needs of the program, the student's developmental and educational background, and the overall composition of the classroom and community.

Because the number of applicants often exceeds the number of available spaces, we do not maintain a traditional first-come, first-served waitlist. Instead, we maintain a wait pool.

Being in the wait pool means that a family remains under consideration should an appropriate opening become available. When a space opens, we consider the students in the pool based on the needs of the particular program and the overall composition of the classroom and community at that time. Position in the pool is not determined simply by the date an application was submitted.

Upper School (Grades 7–12)
Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Step 4: Interview & Student Visit

The next step is a meeting with the parents or guardians, which includes a personalized tour of the classrooms and campus. This conversation and tour give us an opportunity to learn more about your child, your family's educational experience, and what you are looking for in a school, while also giving you a closer look at the Butler environment.

The way we meet the child varies depending on their age and the program to which they are applying. Depending on the program, this may include a student visit, classroom observation, academic screening, or other age-appropriate activities.

Step 5: Admission Decision & Enrollment

Following the completion of the admissions process, the Admissions Committee reviews the complete application and makes an admission decision.

Families who are offered a place at Butler receive an enrollment contract and information about the next steps for joining our community.

Because available spaces vary from year to year and by program, the timing of the admissions process can also vary. Throughout the process, our goal is to get to know each family thoughtfully and to make decisions that support both the individual child and the classroom community.
