Schedule A Tour

Welcome

Becoming a part of the Butler community starts with visiting our campus. Taking a tour will help you become more familiar with the Montessori classroom and materials that support  the philosophy behind a Montessori education.

The Montessori method is a unique way of teaching children – one that focuses on educating based on the child’s natural development. Touring our school lets you see how that education takes place, making it easier to decide if this style of education would be a good fit for your child.

The admissions process begins with completing the Schedule a Tour Form and a tour of the school.

After you have toured the school, you may submit an Admissions Application.

Following receipt of the application:

  • You will be contacted to set up an admissions interview/parent class observation.
  • For children ages 4 and older, a visit to a classroom, along with a brief educational screening, will be scheduled.

Once the admissions interview and student visit have been completed, you will be notified about acceptance.

If your child has been offered acceptance, you will receive an e-mail with a link to the parent portal. Once you are in the parent portal you will follow the directions to complete the enrollment contract.

Priority Applicants

Siblings of currently enrolled students, as well as children with previous Montessori background, are given priority to the limited number of spaces we have in our classrooms. Part of what makes this model so successful is the long-term process of education and growth that has made the Montessori philosophy so famous. We have a commitment to our community to ensure its success by doing everything we can to create a diverse and stable environment.

Young Children's Community: (Ages 18 months to 3 years)

In addition to being at least 18 months old, children beginning this program should be demonstrating their desire for independence.

Primary: (Ages 3 to 5)

Applicants should be at least age three by the beginning of the school year for which he or she is applying, although sometimes exceptions are made for younger students.

Primary students must have toilet independence prior to starting school.

Elementary and Intermediate: (Ages 6 through 15)

Teacher recommendations and the child’s transcript should be sent directly from the child’s current school or teacher. We will supply you with the list of needed reports depending on the age/level of your child. It is important that we receive these items before your scheduled interview.

Young Children’s Community (ages 18 months–3 years) and
First and Second-Year Primary (ages 3 and 4)
Rolling admissions, all year

Apply for admissions at any time during the year.
The admissions process includes taking a tour, submitting an enrollment application form and completing a parent interview.
Acceptances for applicants who complete the process by the 1st of the month are generally sent on the 15th of the month.
Enrollment contracts are due back by the 1st of the following month.

Third-Year Primary (kindergarten age) through 9th Grade
Open enrollment September 1 through March 1

We accept applications for admission through March 1.
However, we encourage families to apply as early as possible.
Applications submitted after March 1 will be subject to available openings.
Acceptance letters are sent March 15 or later, depending on the date of application.
Completed enrollment contracts are due back within one weeks of receipt of acceptance letter.
For anyone interested in applying after March 1, we encourage families to contact the Admissions Office first to discuss current availability.

Admissions interviews and parent observations are scheduled on designated days and last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. During this time, both parents/guardians participate in a meeting with the Head of School and take part in classroom observations. This is an opportunity to further explore the philosophy of the school, ask questions and determine if Butler Montessori is a good match for your child and family.

A date and duration (half or full day) is scheduled for prospective students ages 4 and older to visit in a classroom. This visit allows both the child and guide (teacher) a chance to get to know each other and provides an opportunity for the guide to observe the child’s synergy in the classroom. During this time, a brief educational screening will be done by our educational specialist.

Following the parents’ admissions interview and the child’s visit you will be contacted once a decision is made. This process can take up to two weeks.

If your child has been offered acceptance, you will receive an e-mail with a link to the parent portal. Once you are in the parent portal you will follow the directions to complete the enrollment contract.

Once we receive your nonrefundable $1,000 enrollment deposit, a space for your child will be secured.

Contracts received after the specified date will be accepted provided there is still space available.

Each subsequent year, your child(ren) will be automatically re-enrolled.

If you do not wish to re-enroll, you must notify the school in writing by March 1st, of the current school year, for your deposit to be returned; otherwise, your deposit is non-refundable.

Enrollment deposits will be returned in May of the last year that your child is enrolled in Butler Montessori.

Butler Montessori offers a limited amount of financial assistance to qualified students. Financial assistance is only available to third-year Primary (kindergarten) through 9th-grade students.
There are two forms that will need to be completed in their entirety for a family to be eligible for consideration for financial assistance.

  1. There is a Butler Montessori Application for Financial Assistance that the Business Office sends out to applicants. This form will need to be completed and returned to the Business Office along with the family’s end-of-year mortgage statement before you can be considered for financial assistance. This form should take no longer than 10 to 15 minutes to fill out.
  2. In addition, you must also complete an application with FAST (Financial Aid and Student Tuition), which is a software tool that most private schools across the country use to determine the expected family contribution.

To use FAST, click on this link to create an account.

  • Download the FAST worksheet that lists all of the information you will need to complete the form.
  • Once you have collected the information you need, complete the online form. This form should take approximately 60–90 minutes to complete.
  • You can start the application and return to it at a later time to complete if needed.
  • Copies of the following supporting documents will also need to be sent to FAST:
    • Most recently completed federal tax return (form 1040), including all supporting schedules.
    • Most recently completed Maryland state returns.
    • Most recent W-2s from employer.

Both of these applications need to be submitted to the appropriate recipient on or just after the April tax deadline. Decisions regarding financial awards are made during the first week of May.
